I have a Dell Precision 5530 with a Thunderbolt 3 port and have tried several Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C docks and hubs to get even just one (1) 4K@60Hz output to no avail. They would always come through at 2.5K@60Hz, not even a 4K@30Hz option. This unit will do dual (2) 4K@60Hz, (2) 2.5K@144Hz, or (1+1) 4K@60+2.5K@144Hz. I've tested all combinations. But you need a Thunderbolt 3 port, like on the dell Precision 5530 and similar models. It works just fine in modern Linux, including with the 1GbE AX88179 networking port.$ lsusb -d 0b95:1790Bus 004 Device 005: ID 0b95:1790 ASIX Electronics Corp. AX88179 Gigabit Ethernet$ lsmod | grep -i ax88ax88179_178a 36864 0usbnet 57344 1 ax88179_178amii 16384 3 usbnet,ax88179_178aI've also daisy-chained an USB3 hub off of the USB3 port for additional USB ports for keyboard+mice. But don't expect it to power lots of USB devices, like a SSD drive. Only 15W power can be provided to the USB3 port. But for the price (especially $50 on-sale), this is the unit to get for those of us with 4K@60Hz and 2.5K@144Hz panels ... including the ability to drive dual (2) at those full sizes/refresh rates.tl:dr you can use two of these in a Mac Pro 7,1 with Pro Vega ii or Pro Vega ii Duo card, but they must be on different DisplayPort busses, and if you are also using the GPU HDMI, the Dual HDMI adapters must be plugged one into the GPU and one into the IO card or the top (front) TB3 ports.Due to the high number of screens I'm displaying from my Mac Pro (10 different displays (1 is airplay), some of which are split into multiples, and some of which have multiviews with as many as 10 displays within a single monitor), I ordered two of these to try to get back a few TB3 ports for some external SSD's. I can successfully use two of these TB3 - Dual HDMI devices on my machine, with a few caveats.I'm using a single Pro Vega ii DUO card, which gives me a massive available number of pixels for screens. I'm not generating any 4K screens, though I do have two 4K capable screens, and tested the 4K output on one of my dual HDMI display adapters, and it worked fine.If you are using the Pro Vega ii or Pro Vega ii Duo, your TB3 connectors on the IO card and the top (or front) of your Mac Pro are routed via DisplayPort. My setup is: Pro Vega ii Duo HDMI output with a standard HDMI, then a USBC-DVI in TB3 port 1, USBC-DVI in port 2, then this TB3 - Dual HDMI in port 3, and TB3 external HDD in port 4. Second Dual HDMI display adapter is in the IO card's TB3 port 1.I attempted to put both dual HDMI display adapters directly into the GPU card in various locations with no joy.The second dual HDMI display adapter has to go in the IO card's TB3 port because I'm using the HDMI output on the GPU. If you are not using the HDMI output on the GPU, you can put both Dual HDMI adapters on the card, but must separate them by at least one TB3 port to get them on different DisplayPort busses. The empty TB3 ports on the GPU are still usable as TB3, but as I understand it, they don't have enough GPU bus bandwidth left over to render even a 1024x768 screen. I could be wrong about the bus bandwidth issue, and it might just be a total qty of displays is limited to 2 per bus regardless of pixel count. This device is a TB3 port-saver if ever I found one. It's very well made, comes well packaged, and is backed by a well known company. It appears to be exactly the same as a few other similar adapters from other companies in terms of its capabilities, but currently priced about 35% less expensive. In my setup, things just have to work, under stress, with a lot of unplugging, plugging back in, and general thrashing. And so far, this display adapter does just that.I have a 2019 Macbook pro and got this so I could plug in two external displays to use in extend mode and use my Macbook pro built in display. This allows me to have 3 separate screens unlike most adapters that will only mirror the signal that is sent to the external displays.I have never been able to get this to work correctly on the Mac Mini M1 with BigSur. I'm trying to attach two 1080P Dell monitors, with one of the Thunderbolt ports in the back, but the video is garbled on both monitors.Works great connecting one 4k@60hz and one 2k@144hz on Dell Precision laptopI've had no issues and no annoying configuring. My MacBook sees two monitors instead of the device exactly like it is supposed to work. Just a heads up, Apple's marketing can be misleading. If you want to run 4 monitors, the M1 Pro chips won't do it. You'll need to get an M1 Max.MacBook Pro 2017 2 Thunderbolt3 で使用しています。
