Purchased this to use for backing up my MacBook and iMac. Small size and basically plug and play to use Time Machine (MacOs will prompt you to re-image if you want to use Time Machine). Prior experience with LaCie was excellent, so I decided to stick with this brand and I was quite happy with the results. Not as 'fast' as an SSD; however, still didn't take long and the drive never got hot or made noise. Highly recommended.So easy to use I couldn't figure out how to use it at first. Just plug it into your computer. When done, unplug. Dead quiet too.Most reliable brand i have found for my photography. No regretsEasy to use comes with everything you need to use immediately. Well built quality material & fairly quick process speeds. Have had this for a few yrs now & still haven't come close to using all the memory.Highly recommended! Even Apple Store have it in their stores!very easy to useThis 5 TB hard drive comes with a USB-C cable on both ends. I pulled it out of the box, plugged it into my MacBook Pro (2019) running Monterey, formatted it, and ran a Time Machine Backup. The drive does not make any noise. It is smooth as can be. I backed up 1.8 TB in just under 3 hours. I am very pleased with the hard drive and happy to not worry about running out of room on my back up drive anymore.But very good experience with customer service and looks like it will be replacedDrive itself looks superb (2TB model). However, and this is a first in all my many Amazon orders, it was a repaired drive! No branded packaging and a Seagate repair sticker on the back. With a hard drive a mission critical device, I expect it to be brand new unless specified in the description, which it certainly wasn't. So returned and buying the same drive again, hoping for a new one! My previous (1TB) LaCie has like all their drives been very reliable. Will update this review as things proceed...Update - As usual, Amazon great and refunded. Bought another one from Apple Store I happened to be in, and whilst I think it looks superb (very CyberTruck!) and is well made, it's not that fast, so although ideal for TimeMachine backups and such, it's not suitable as a data transfer or content storage drive (video, photos etc). Way better to get a Samsung T5 SSD that we use for such tasks that although a lot more money, is of course solid state, 4 times as fast and very reliable.This HDD is full of advantages and very few downsides.The first thing is that the appearance and functionality of this HDD are the best which I've used for my MacBook Pro 2020. This mini HDD is sturdy and fast for data read and write speeds - when transferring between 50 to 120 GB its find but anything higher and the HDD gets slow.But I looked more into the throttle for myself and wanted to run it in full capacity and I tested and got to know that this device was beaten up in backup time, which is basically a time machine for macOS, and it took a very long time to back it up.And for that one thing, I 'd suggest to you folks is that portable hard drives consist of spinning glass or metal plates, making them a poor choice as the primary backup of your data-especially if you carry it around. Portable SSDs are better here but you should still back up your extremely valuable data on a desktop drive and/or cloud service.I can’t tell you how many devices I searched and searched for. Everyone of them for Mac involved some kind of stupid formatting! This right here is a literal plug in and off you go! No formatting, no mess and the transfer of files is super quick!Totally affordable and beautiful in design. See pic.And it’s tiny! Expected a block and its the size of a dairy milk pack. Perfect!Came with 2 cables. Usb 3 to usb 3 and for us who haven’t caught up yet Usb 3 to Usb 2 - that’s your normal duck mouth.Excellent product so far with USB-C/USB-C and USB-C/USB-A leads included, so no adaptor required as was the case with a previous ext. drive. Despite LiCie branding this drive is manufactured by Seagate. Formatting the drive for my MacBook Pro (2020) is straightforward but there are also clear on-screen instructions included on the drive. Slim form, sleek design and good value for money make this an excellent purchase. I have not tried it with Windows. Delivered promptly by Amazon thanks to their amazing delivery staff!USB-C connection to my PC very fast (install Lacie's own software as suggested and it nearly doubles the transfer speed). Quiet and reliable. PC powered. Not having used USB-C before I hadn't been aware that the PC lead cannot be simply pulled out but needs a squeeze to disconnect
