I recently went from an older 15-inch MacBook Pro to one of the new 14-inch MacBook Pro's with an M1 Max Chip. I didn't think it would make a big difference since they extended the screen into the bezel area (the edge around the screen). Well, I was wrong. I freelance in the film industry as a Production Coordinator and already had a difficult time on the 15-inch, just not enough screen real estate. So I've been on the look out for a decent, yet fairly inexpensive portable monitor for a 2nd monitor. Most of the ones I've been looking at were over 1.5lbs and more money than I cared to spend for how much wear and tear it's going to get. I looked again the other day, as my efficiency is just not what it should be and this one was not only at a great price point ($159.99) but also had a coupon for an additional $20 off. Deal! Done!So far, I am extremely happy with this sucker! Even though I checked the measurements, it's bigger than I thought it would be (that is a bonus). It's light... lighter than my iPad (yet, physically, much larger). I'm really surprised at the color, as well, I was able to get it to an extremely close match to the MacBook Pro. It's not totally perfect, but pretty darned close considering the price point. It connects to my MacBook Pro with just the USB-C, for video, audio and power... regardless of whether the MBP is running on battery or is plugged in. I did have an issue at first getting the audio to run through the monitor's speakers, but support clued me in to the trick (more on audio/speakers a little further down in the review). That is the other thing... how many company's tech support departments answer the phone at like midnight? 24/7 tech support their paperwork says! I tried and they answered the phone! That is fantastic, especially since I work all kinds or weird hours!I've only had it a couple of days and I'm not on a job, so it's not really been run through the paces yet but I've been starting to use it home. For work, it will mostly be for more screen real estate to have reference documents up on it, so I can enter into budgets, POs, pre-production documents like call sheets and things on the other screen from the MacBook Pro. Now, personally, I'm stoked to get back to really doing some photoshop work, because I have more screen real estate! The monitor does come with a magnetic cover (similar to the Apply iPad cover) that converts to a stand that super convenient for quick trips and what have you. For me though, any amount of time intensive computer work, I need to have it up on a stand for a more posture-correct position. Currently, I'm using a stand that I had for my iPad and it works perfectly in Landscape mode. My iPad stand does not work for the monitor in Portrait more though, the monitor is too tall. This company it so great that they give you a free gift that you get to choose from, I chose a stand. I am just waiting for it to come in. That will really make my work far more efficient. The sound is the only flaw for me, but not a deal breaker by any means. It's just nice to have in the event I need to show a presentation, video or animatic to clients by pulling the monitor over to them. If that were to happen, at least there is some sort of sound. For me to get the sound to work, the sound (on the monitor) had to be turned up to 100% or else you won't hear it. Then when you select the monitor as the sound output in preferences on the MacBook Pro, it would play (at least this is how it worked via USB-C). They said I should have been able to control the audio levels from the MBP at that point... I could not. There was literally one sound level. Again, for me, not a deal breaker. Not to mention, the sound/speakers are not great... it's just nice to have it in a pinch. All in all, so far, I think it's a pretty fantastic Monitor and deal and am 100% happy with the purchase. Once I get to put it though it's paces and see how it holds up, I'm going to consider buy a 2nd so that I don't have to keep packing this one up to bring to work. One for home, one for traveling to jobs. Definitely thinking it's worth it.I'll try and remember to come back and edit this review, once I've traveled with it a bit and gone through a few productions to relay my findings on how it holds up to that abuse.Upddated! I was at first slightly disappointed that I would have to plug my screen into an outlet to power it, but the amazing customer service people mentioned that I could simply plug the power cord into a USP port on my computer. Now I am portable again and thrilled with my purchase! I edited photos using it a day ago and it was spectacular. I like it better than the screen on my macbook pro!My mid 2015 MacBook Pro's display started developing flickering horizontal lines and non-flickering vertical lines. I know it won't be long until the screen is completely unusable. I wasn't willing to replace the machine as I paid $800 for a new motherboard last year and I really like the older operating system as I can keep my Lightroom and Photoshop versions. I decided to try adding an external monitor and this one really works beautifully. II love having a matte screen again, too! I just stand this beautiful, thin monitor right on top of the laptop's screen and all is well! The only disappointment is that the hdmi cord doesn't work to run the screen and I have to plug the new monitor into an outlet while using. Maybe I missed that in the description, but I thought it would not need extra power. This review is my first impression and it’s a good one. I ordered this portable monitor for when I have to work out of a hotel room. I move and travel quite often and miss my extra monitors when doing so.So when I saw extra discounts during Prime Day, I had to order. True to word the screen is a nice matte finish which is easy on my eyes. I had been thinking I might need to buy a new cable to use to connect my laptop but I actually did not. It came with two types of cables- usb-c and hdmi/mini. It also came with its own case/cover to protect the screen which doubles as a stand. The monitor itself is very thin and super portable.I’m pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to set it up & how quickly I was able to start using it. I definitely have a harder time setting up my normal monitors. It came with a host of instructions if needed but it was all pretty intuitive. The packaging was good, as it was well cushioned.Like most folks who have multiple screens attached to their laptop, I am not as productive when I am on the road for days. I ordered this monitor so I can always have that second screen. When it arrived I found that it was easy to connect to my Windows Laptop or MacBook. The picture is great and overall the unit is light so it doesn't feel like you're carrying a brick in your backpack. While I like the cover for protection like others have noted I find the magnet that attaches it to the monitor a little weak and using it for the stand is a bit awkward at first.I tried the speakers and like most in a small thin monitor, they are not great but I think most folks will use a headset or earbuds.Overall I am very pleased with this monitor.I was really pleasantly surprised with this monitor. The picture quality is good, all necessary cords are included, and in general the unit seems very solidly built. I bought it for use while travelling so I'll have to see how well it stands up over the trip, but it comes with a foldable cover that acts as a stand which I think will work well to keep it safe, especially when stacked with the accompanying laptop.I am using a 2018 MBP, and the monitor was super simple plug and and use with no setup of any kind. After searching around similar products in the $150 range, I think the small jump to a better unit like this is worth the slight investment.
